Cortez, Colorado
Cortez
is a ranching and tourist community in Montezuma
County approximately 85 miles SW of Telluride and is a
gateway to the deserts of the Southwest. It lies on the main
throughway to Durango
and the Durango
Mountain Resort. To the south lie Farmington and Shiprock,
N. M. and to the southwest is the Grand
Canyon which bisects the
Colorado
Plateau.
East bound travelers will cross the Continental
Divide via Wolf
Creek Pass, passing by the Wolf
Creek Ski area.
Mesa
Verde National Park is probably the most recognizable
feature in this area, drawing millions of visitors yearly.
